Apple has rolled out a new privacy feature in iOS 26.3 designed to give users more control over how much location data their mobile carriers can access. The feature, called Limit Precise Location, is exclusive to devices powered by Apple’s in-house cellular modem.
What the Feature Does
With Limit Precise Location enabled, carriers no longer receive exact street-level details of your device’s location. Instead, they only get a broader approximation—such as your neighborhood or general area. This means your carrier can still provide connectivity services without knowing your precise whereabouts.
No Impact on Performance or Safety
Apple emphasizes that this setting does not affect:
- Signal strength or network performance
- Call quality or mobile data speeds
- Emergency services location accuracy
Emergency responders will continue to receive precise location data when required, ensuring that critical safety features remain intact.
Privacy Without Compromise
The feature only applies to location data shared with carriers during normal operation. It doesn’t interfere with apps, services, or emergency systems. In short, it’s a privacy upgrade that doesn’t come at the cost of functionality or reliability.
Supported Devices and Carriers
At launch, Limit Precise Location is available on:
- iPhone Air
- iPhone 16e
- iPad Pro (M5, Wi-Fi + Cellular)
Older iPhones and iPads using third-party modems are not supported.
Carrier support is also required. Currently, the feature works with:
- Telekom (Germany)
- EE and BT (UK)
- Boost Mobile (US)
- AIS and True (Thailand)
Apple has hinted that support may expand over time as more carriers adopt the feature.
How to Enable Limit Precise Location
To turn on the feature:
- Update your device to iOS 26.3 or later.
- Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options.
- If you use multiple SIMs, select the relevant line.
- Scroll down to find Limit Precise Location and toggle it on.
- Restart your device if prompted.
Bottom Line: Apple’s Limit Precise Location is a thoughtful addition to iOS 26.3, giving users stronger privacy protections against carrier-level tracking while keeping performance and safety untouched.
